Movie review: Despicable Me 2

If Claptrap (from the game Borderlands) met a minion.

First off, I have to write that the original Despicable Me is an awesome movie. Funny evil villain jokes, hilarious weapons and silly little laughs at the minions. I often tell my kids "I got the shrink ray!" in the accent and we laugh about it like it's some personal joke. You definitely need to watch the original before the second one. Not for story but to get acquainted with the minions. MINIONS!

Despicable Me 2 takes all the silliness a step further with an entire movie almost based on the lovable banana loving minions! It's like some writers read my mind. I love the minions. I wish I had my own but I'm just not evil enough to be able to make some. I'll settle for my kids and because they're good little minions I took them to see Despicable Me 2 today.

The movie is barely ever boring and even though the trailers show some of the best bits you will still laugh during them. There are moments where you wished there were more minions though. Did I mention I like the minions? I like how Steve Carell says minions in his accent. Miiiinyons.

I'm useless at writing reviews. I'm more of a visual person but I recommend this movie for a good relaxing laugh. Watch for the minions during the end credits!

What I've been up to..

You might of noticed the blog renovations! A new layout is always good to refresh the writers' block and artist's drain on imagination. It's me as the 50ft woman! I like it.

What else I've been up to...

Back to my t-shirt designs. I got two new ones done and finally got around to adding my Deadpool on a taco design.

Tacopool on a t-shirt. Hell yes. I want one for myself.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles VS Samurai Pizza Cats

I hate Clickers. A Last of Us design I did the day the game came out. I actually stopped playing to draw it!

All available on Redbubble.

I've done other things too. I went to Supanova dressed as Mrs Willy Wonka and fully cosplayed with my kids but didn't blog about it. GAH! I've been on a couple of podcasts talking about games and decorative soap. I've also started a op shop blog with a friend. All things I should write about and link up but it's 12:08am and I'm off to Despicable Me 2 with my kids tomorrow. Better sleep for hours on end to boost my energy. Review tomorrow.

Game flashback: Zombies ate my neighbours

This was one of those games my brother and I borrowed off a friend for a few weeks and loved it from the beginning. It was made by Lucas Arts and published by Konami back in 1993 but I don't remember playing it until 1997. It's a single player or co-op game with multiple levels of pixelly shoot them up fun.

The box art is deceiving in a bad way because it makes the game look like a boring zombie game. I don't think zombies back in the 90s zombies weren't a big thing like they are now. Although the 90s did give us such greats as Brain Dead and Army of Darkness. This looks like the poster for a B grade horror movie. Maybe that's the point considering some of the levels and monsters do remind me of the horror greats.

Even the title screen isn't anything flash. Start or password. No clues about this game are really given away. I'm not sure how I'm going to win you over to play this game so far. This screen doesn't even let you know that this is not just a zombie game! There are werewolves, Frankensteins, alien plants, giant ants, giant baby boss (wtf), crazy psycho dolls and more. Those are just what I KNOW are in the game after playing a few levels. Wikipedia says there are 48 levels but this box cover states 55! I think I played through 10. I better get cracking for this review..

JB Hi-fi redrawn game covers

I may be behind on the times but when did JB hi-fi start hand drawing game covers for preowned games? More importantly: why did no-one inform me of this hilarious new trend?

Further research into this phenomena found that not only is it a thing JB seems to be only doing but EB Games also held public competition on who could make the best and funniest hand drawn cover. I should of entered that!

It seems JB hi-fi employees have taken the initiative to reimagine some game covers for games that might have lost or damaged covers. It's a brilliant idea. You technically still get a game with a cover and it's also good for a laugh.

Here are some choice covers from a recent retail therapy session I conducted at JB today:

Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe

Wow. They were so close with this one. I'm not sure how strong those stick arms would be if they punched you though. I like how the artist still wrote in 'Playstation network' up the top. Making a cover look authentic takes a lot of time and thought into it.

Borderlands GOTY edition

I didn't get the GOYTE thing right away. I know who Gotye is so I just figured maybe his song was in Borderlands somehow. I realised Game of the year = GOTY = GOTYE. I get it now *slow clap*

DIY cosplay prop: Hoverboard

A rough how to guide on how to make your own Hoverboard.

Note: All photos can be clicked to send you to the bigger version of the image.

My hoverboard prop next to real ones displayed at the Back to the Future booth at Supanova

The first time you decide to dress your kids up properly and not just for Halloween is a shining moment in any geek parents life. I decided to take my kids to Supanova (12-14th of April) and make my daughter's ninth birthday special by dressing up the whole family in cosplay. My daughter chose Vanellope from Wreck-it Ralph, I ended up being Mrs Willy Wonka and I chose Marty McFly for my 5 year old son who, after watching the movies, loved the idea.

Evil Dead.. the outfit I need

The Evil Dead trilogy (now announced will be a Quad.. ology?) is something I've always loved even as a kid. Mind you, I only watched Army of Darkness when I was younger because my brother and I loved scary but funny movies. I now watch them regularly to ease my mind, to let the creativity flow and to just to simply sit back and enjoy decent movie making and gore. Who doesn't love gore and demons?

I'm not even going to post a photo because the new movie is that creepy looking. I'm really excited about it being released here. I'll explain why..

The new remake will only be released in select cinema(s) across Melbourne and Sydney only FOR ONE WEEK. That's just crazy and I refuse to miss out on something that will never happen again.. or until Army of Darkness 2. It seems that Australia has a reputation for not liking horror or at least horror movies not selling well in Australia. It's beyond my comprehension how anyone could come to that conclusion. I'm sure it just comes down to ticket sales. God knows I have no idea why the Glee or Katy Perry movie got cinema releases.

So here's my usual outfit idea post! It's become a good filler in between posts I have laying around waiting to be written.

Atomic Cherry have Sourpuss's Cherry Pie Gingham dress for $55
Bloody flats could be made with some cheap shoes and red fabric paint. I love making pieces for my outfits.
Chainsaw necklace piece if from DIY or DIE for $2.50 a piece and I already have it.
Eyeball pin from Beserk clothing for $10. They're becoming my favourite store.
Skull bracelet from anywhere based on what I've seen.
Skull tights found on Ebay for $5.99 but might dye them as I recoloured them red in the picture above.

Necronomicon book bag. Another craft project. I've watched and read some book bag tutorials and it seems simple enough. I think I'll grab some polymer clay and attempt a real skin looking replica Necronomicon cover for it with inspiration from Dogzilla Lives. It'll beat paper mache and look amazing.

Picture from Book Of The Dead Evil Dead website

I also want a replica of Linda's necklace. If I can't find it then I hope someone gets it for me for my birthday. HINT.

After looking around online I did manage to find a Ash's S-Mart uniform t-shirt at Entertainment Earth available for $25 that has sold out over at Think Geek. I could just buy it and get in time for the movie but I might leave that for someone else to get because it's more fun for me to put together an outfit.

WARNING: Don't take my outfit idea. Last time I went for the Strawberry Shortcake dress idea the dresses were all gone (in my size but still, shh). I'm more than willing to help with ideas if you message or comment.

Meeting my bestfriend for the first time

Pixel version of us I drew after I had my first child in 2004

We "met" through our old Geocities personal blogs back in 1999. When we use to write about boys, pets and draw cute little pixel items like these.. I wish I had some of Emma's pixels saved.

Fuck yeah. Animated pixels were my thing.

Supanova: Strawberry Shortcake?

Another cosplay/dress idea. 50s Strawberry Shortcake this time. I'm really keen to get the dress and everything put together if I can by April 12th for Supanova.

All items are in Australia too for that 'quick get me into some cosplay' effect!
